Throughout my adulthood so far, my confidence about my life and career path has been on an estimated 18-month cycle which is hitting its nadir at the moment. So please excuse me for spending today working on TikToks instead of a column—the increasingly visible collapse of the journalism industry less than a year after I decided inadvisedly to “get into it” is causing me a lot of psychic stress.
On my main account, to tie into my forthcoming book about fandom, I’m trying a quirky little thing I call the “Shipping Forecast” — statistics and updates on shipping trends across fandom, using data from AO3, Tumblr, and TikTok.
And I created a new account just for videos about polar exploration, because… I wanted to. Here’s one about the first person to ever die in the Antarctic:
